Name ideas
I have come up with a number of magazine names for my magazine. I have chosen these names because I believe they suit the style and type of magazine I am going for:
·         Rockapalooza
·         The Rock-a-thon
·         Chord
·         The glory days
·         11
·         Pump
·         The Reminisce
·         Daydreamer
·         Remedy
·         Axis
·         Golden music
These names make me think of classic rock apart from pump which is more for teenage. The three magazine names I most like are chord, Rock-a-palooza and The Rock-A-Thon. This is because they are all obviously music related and from the title you can tell what the magazine is about.
Chord: Chord is clever as it relates to guitar. It’s very simple but also memorable. Magazine’s like Q and NME which are short and simple are the most popular magazines.
Rockapalooza: The name is fun to say and is also memorable in the mind as it is very distinctive. Also it has connotations to party which people enjoy, making people buy my magazine because they can make that link between fun and my magazine.
The Rock-a-thon: it stays in the mind and makes me think of a huge musical celebration which is what my magazine is aiming for, a celebration of the golden age of music.

Colour connotations
I will use very simple colours as my target readers are sophisticated and educated. They will also have an interest in classic rock so will be reading the article instead of trying to attract the customers with pictures and big text. These colours will be light blue, dark blue, white or black. I will not use too many bright colours like red, yellow and green.

Week 3

This week i carried out my Key concepts research. This was completed on a Prezi. This would help me when designing my music magazine. The Key concepts are:

  • Codes and conventions
  • Audience
  • Institution
  • Representation
I wrote about these four things and included examples to support my points. For all Four concepts, i wrote information about:
  • Who owns them
  • Who reads them
  • How are musical genres represented in music magazines
  • The history of music magazines
There are alot more on the presentation which i answer thoroughly.

Week 2

This week i started a blog. this was new to me as i had never used blogger before. it was hard to get the hang of but eventually i got the hang of it. The first thing i uploaded was my front covert. I then added my contents page and evaluated it also. After this i started my front cover and contents page analysis. this took me a while as i was writing quite alot. i then did a double page spread which also took a  long time. i uploaded all of these things to my blog

Evaluation of My Front cover and Contents page

Front cover positives

My front cover is attractive and eye-catching due to three things:

·         Font

·         Font Colour

·         Unusual yet logical picture

The font I chose was big and eye-caching. This is what people want in a magazine as it sells the product to them. The second thing that was good was my use of font colour. I chose it carefully so it didn’t clash with the photo. This meant I couldn’t use colours like light green as it clashed with the plants in the background.

The picture I chose was a boy hiding behind a bush this is a reference to the army and as it’s a survival guide to the exams it is logical but at the same time you have to think “what’s this about”

Front cover negatives

The bad things about my front cover are that I believe I didn’t use enough plugs on the side of the magazine also I thought I could maybe add some effects onto the title which would have made it a lot more effective. Some of the colours don’t really suit the magazine’s style. For example the use of red on the page while eye-catching looks out of place on the cover.

Contents Page Positives

My contents page is very eye-catching due to the extraordinary amount of colour on the page. Also the font I used again held its own even with all the colour in the background. Also I believe I have described the articles in the magazine well enough for people to know what they can expect from the magazine in general.

Contents Page Negatives

Unfortunately the contents page looks as if there has been no thought gone into it what so ever. The background while eye-catching is over the top and there is way to much going on the page. I find that after the front cover which was quite good the contents page lets down the work heavily and does not fit with the general trend the magazine would go for.to improve it there should have been a camo background used  instead or a picture of some sought.

My Double Page Spread Analysis

Tuesday 4 October 2011

Week 1

This week I began my preliminary song. This was to design a front cover and contents page. I drew up my front cover and contents page and then went onto the computer to create it on photo shop. i took a picture of someone hiding behind a bush to show stealth and a pun on the fact that my magazine is a survival guide to surviving exams. My target audience are gcse students as it is a survival guide to exams.
